A major part of the work involved in the development of the CFM, which consists of > 140 faults, is the technical challenge of digitally assembling the various data and interpretations. Here is a list of software tools, commercial and free, which were found to be most useful for this task:

    • gocad (Earth Decision): main modeling engine, integration, interpolation, visualization
    • imagine (Erdas): geocorrection of images and vector drawings, coordinate system projection
    • proj (G. Evenden): command line (batch) coordinate system projection, datum conversion (nad2nad)
    • pstoedit (W. Glunz): command line conversion of postscript to many formats, in particular to dxf for data exchange

Other SCEC groups developed parsers and import filters for the tsurf file format.

Thorsten Becker provided an awk script to convert the .ts format faults into COFF format which can be viewed with the freely available geomview software. Download the tar archive with the script.
